The supply of last resort. What is it and what is it for?
The supply of last resort service will apply to you if you:
- You fall into stage I of market liberalisation and have yet to select an independent supplier
- You fall into stage II of market liberalisation and you fail to select an independent supplier by 18 June 2022.
- You fall into stage III of liberalisation and you fail to select an independent supplier by 10 December 2022.
ESO will ensure the electricity supply of last resort to you. The supply of last resort will continue until you conclude a contract with an independent electricity supplier and the latter will start supplying electricity. If you fail to do so within 6 months, ESO will have the right to terminate the supply of last resort.
Why the supply of last resort is not the solution?
Electricity supply will be temporary
ESO is obligated to ensure the supply of last resort for up to 6 months. After this period, ESO has the right to terminate the supply of last resort. You will be informed about the scheduled termination 3 weeks in advance. Therefore, do not hesitate to conclude a contract with an independent electricity supplier.
25% more expensive electricity
The price of the supply of last resort provided by ESO is determined by the Law on Electricity of the Republic of Lithuania.
The price of the supply of last resort is calculated by applying the coefficient of 1.25 to the average electricity market price for the last reporting month in the Lithuanian prize zone, that is why it is 25% higher than the average market price. The regulated electricity price components are also added to the price of the supply of last resort, which can be found here. The price of the supply of last resort fluctuates and is recalculated for each month.
