ELECTRICITY MARKET LIBERALISATION
Why do I have to choose a supplier?

Last year electricity market liberalisation was initiated in Lithuania, and the public supply is being phased out. That’s why, from now on, you can decide who you will buy electricity from.

This means that you can choose an electricity supplier just like you choose a mobile service operator, an insurance company or a gym.

How is this beneficial to you?

  • You will be able to compare offers from different companies and select the plan that suits you the best.
  • You will be able to change your electricity supplier if the one you chose did not satisfy your expectations.
  • Independent suppliers will compete to provide customers with the best offer.

What is the reason behind these changes?

It is a usual practice in most European countries, including our neighbours. Lithuania also made a commitment to the European Union to liberate the electricity market.

Advice

All suppliers buy electricity in the market, and the largest share of electricity price will still be regulated by the state, and their offers will not differ significantly. Therefore, when choosing an independent supplier, you should evaluate not just the price, but also reliability and service quality.

What should you pay attention to when choosing an independent electricity supplier?

  1. Compare tariff plans and benefits

Compare different plans offered by the supplier and compare them with plans of other suppliers. Take advantage of calculators to find out the best price because the price per kilowatt depends on the electricity volume you consume.

Find out if the supplier can offer a fixed-price option. Knowing that the price will not fluctuate during the agreed period, consumers can estimate and plan their energy expenses.

  2. Evaluate reliability and experience

You should consider supplier’s experience in the energy sector. You should choose a verified independent electricity supplier.

  3. Verify that the supplier meets all your needs

You should choose an innovative and responsible company, which takes into account your and your children’s future – makes the energy sector more sustainable, develops green energy and creates innovative solutions.
